Abstract

Introduction: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic implied the establishment of a limit context for psychological adaptation, where social psychopathology was also a response to some of its consequences.

Objective: Characterize intentionally self-inflicted injuries during the year 2020 in Cuba.

Methods: Observational-descriptive, retrospective, longitudinal study with intentionally self-inflicted injuries. The absolute and relative frequencies, relative change, ratio and incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants were calculated. An endemic channel was created with the period 2013-2019.

Results: In 2020, 8,230 intentionally self-inflicted injuries were registered nationwide, which represented a decrease of 9.87% compared to 2019. Females manifested 68 % of this autolytic behavior. Thus, in relation to the historical behavior of the series, the incidence rate for the year 2020 was totally different because most of the year passed with values below expectations.

Conclusions: Intentionally self-inflicted injuries at the national level in 2020 experienced a slight decrease compared to 2019. It was evidenced that the incidence rate of intentionally self-inflicted injuries had a behavior below what was expected in relation to the last 7 years, showing only an explosive form towards the month of September coming to manifest itself in the alarm zone.
