Abstract

Introduction: This review focuses on analyzing Burnout Syndrome in nursing personnel and its connection to patient safety.

Objective: to determine Burnout Syndrome in nursing staff and its relationship to patient safety.

Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted by searching databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Scielo. A total of 51 articles in English and Spanish were selected, covering the period from 2011 to 2021, and analyzed using the “Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses” methodology to ensure coherence and rigor.

Results: factors such as gender, years of experience, workload, lack of administrative support, and organizational climate increase the risk of experiencing this syndrome. The literature indicates that healthcare personnel's burnout negatively impacts patient safety, leading to an increase in adverse events during care.

Conclusions: various work-related, personal, and cultural factors contribute to the risk of Burnout Syndrome. Its primary manifestations, including emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and decreased personal performance, directly affect patient safety and, consequently, the quality of healthcare services.
