Evaluation of dental performance in Health Posts of the Piura-EsSalud Assistance Network, 2017-2019

Abstract

Introduction: Dental performance evaluation is an important management tool for assessing performance in public health institutions. There is little information on the performance of dental services in health posts in Peru.

Objective: To evaluate dental performance in Health Posts of the Piura-EsSalud Healthcare Network between 2017-2019.

Methods: A descriptive, quantitative, longitudinal and retrospective study. A Form was used to collect statistical data and dental performance indicators in Health Posts (HP), published on the EsSalud web portal. The analysis of the annual mean, normality test in the monthly measurement indicators, and according to their distribution, the T-Student and Binomial Sign statistical tests were performed to evaluate the performance of the monthly indicators. Prais-Winsten linear regression was used to evaluate the time trend in the achievement of goals.

Results: PS Canchaque was the only one that exceeded the minimum standard of availability of human resources (4.16 per 10,000 patients). PS Huancabamba complied with the indicator Performance of dentist-hours (3.014). All health facilities had good performance in hours of care completed (≥90 %). The process indicators did not meet the minimum monthly parameters demonstrating a significant low monthly performance and a stationary trend.

Conclusions: The Health Posts had a good performance in the indicator hour-dentist. PS Canchaque was the only one with adequate availability of human resources. PS Huancabamba achieved a good hour-dentist performance. The Health Posts had a poor performance in the process indicators.
