Feeding Behavior in Colombian College Students of Physical Culture, Sports and Recreation

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases are responsible for a high mortality in the world and healthy eating is one of the protective factors for them.
Objective: to establish the eating habits of students of physical culture, sports and, recreation from Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Methods: Cross-sectional study in which 205 university students participated. The Eating Behaviors module of World School Health Survey from the World Health Organization was applied. A descriptive analysis of the characteristics of the study population was carried out. Fischer's exact test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used to determine the existence of statistically significant differences according to sex. All analyzes were carried out in Stata version 12.1 / IC (Statistics Data Analysis. STATA / ICq 12.1).
Results: 40% of the students consume fruits only once a day and 49% consume vegetables in the same frequency. 13.6% of university students consume sugary drinks 2 times a day, while 14.7% of this population group consumes breakfast only between 0 and 3 days a week and the average frequency of consumption of ultra-processed industrialized foods is 2 days/ week.
Conclusions: The university students analyzed have eating habits that could guide the design of intervention strategies leading to better and healthier food choices, which could be generalizable to other university students with similar characteristics.
