Abstract

Introduction: The proactive social responsibility of the institutions that train human resources for the health sector is essential to advancing the goal of achieving universal health coverage by 2030. This responsibility translates, among other elements, into curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation, as well as measuring the impact that the institution's actions and those of its graduates have on improving the health situation of the community they serve.

Objective: To describe the articulation of low-fidelity simulation strategies with immersion in primary care settings in the training of socially committed physicians.

Position: The authors defend the value of discussing clinical cases, which simulate the reality of healthcare, to develop critical reasoning and social responsibility in students starting from the first year of medical school.

Conclusions: The integration of problem-based learning and community-based education throughout the program provides a space for developing knowledge, along with practical skills and the values that characterize socially responsible and proactive professionals.
