Evaluation and accreditation at the University of Medical Sciences in Havana: Results for the period 2003–2024

Abstract

Introduction: Today the interaction of the relationships between the different programs, projections, and results of the external evaluations as part of the quality management must assume a new look in its concretion from the knowledge management. Objectives: Systematize the results obtained in the processes of external evaluation to the different programs at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana.

Methods: A documentary review of the 134 opinions issued by the Jan of the evaluation and accreditation of the careers programs, postgraduate specialties, master's, doctorates and the institution, in the period between 2003 and 2024. Theoretical and empirical qualitative methods as well as the percentage analysis as a quantitative method were applied.

Results: 90.9 % of programs accredited for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, 70 % are of excellence, 100 % of the accreditable careers are accredited, for postgraduate programs 88.8 % of the accreditable are accredited, 78.1 % are of excellence.

Conclusions: The critical analysis of Jan's opinions in an integrated way, made it possible to make a diagnosis of weaknesses and thus be able to guide the achievement of superior categories of accreditation on objective and measurable basis, from the monitoring of indicators that characterize it, which allowed to improve and redesign the improvement plans and achieve the quality that society expects.
