Social determinants of disease

Abstract

The new superpower, in addition to asserting itself as an expression of public opinion, tends to aggregate, prepare analyses, organize significant experiences, and present alternative projects such as, in Italy, the Manifesto for Equality, promoted by the Epidemiology Association, and the alternative report Global Health Watch 2005-2006, prepared with the support of the People's Health Movement by Medact (London) and the Global Equity Gauge Alliance (Durban). The publication (Zed Books, London 2005) documents many unacceptable health situations, emphasizes the collective burden of poverty and injustice, and proposes new models of health policies based on participation, in which good health becomes an integral part of citizens' rights and is guaranteed as a global public good.
