The pedagogical thought of Fidel Ilizástigui Dupuy and his community outreach

Abstract

Introduction: The scientific-pedagogical work of Fidel Ilizástigui Dupuy has served as the foundation for curricula, for didactic and educational methods, and for strategies for the development of public health and Cuban medical education.

Objective: Describe the community projection of the pedagogical thought of Fidel Ilizástigui Dupuy.

Methods: A qualitative research was developed with a Marxist-Leninist approach, based on materialist dialectics as a general method of the sciences, which made it possible to establish the study of the research object in its multidimensionality and development from the use of general scientific methods of the theoretical level. To address the research topic, an extensive bibliographic consultation was carried out on the pedagogical thought of Fidel Ilizástigui Dupuy.

Conclusions: The community projection of Fidel Ilizástigui's pedagogical thought is present in all his work, which materialized in the graduate model that he proposed in his study programs, from which a general practitioner is formed with a comprehensive approach to the health-disease process with special emphasis on promotion, prevention and rehabilitation. This projection of his thought is inextricably linked to the integration of teaching – assistance – research and education for work, both in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
