Abstract

Introduction: Cuba stands out among the territories with the best health indicators, such as those related to childhood health, such as the infant mortality rate and that of children under five years of age. However, COVID-19 represents an unprecedented challenge for the health systems of all countries in the world, due to the risk of collapse of emergency services and hospitalization, the insufficient number of workers, the lack of supplies, means of protection, beds and respirators to care for the seriously ill, and public funds to cover the expenses that their care entails.

Objective: Organize, with a focus on processes, the admission of pediatric patients with COVID-19 for the organization of the process in complex epidemiological periods.

Method: A methodology was adapted for the design of the processes, from the provincial and municipal coordinating tables.

Result: The main elements of the process are available, such as a map, flow, description and record of the pediatric admission process in adverse epidemiological situations.

Conclusion: With the organization of the admission process for pediatric patients with COVID-19, greater integration with the rest of the care and non-care services is achieved, and it also allows for greater hospital quality in provincial pediatric hospitals.
