Abstract

Introduction: From a political perspective, it is essential to address suicidal behavior, taking into account the relevance and normative development that this problem has had at the international and national levels.

Objective: To carry out a bibliographic review taking into account the development of Mental Health policy, emphasizing suicidal behavior in Colombia.

Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out, through a search and analysis of relevant findings in the field of Mental Health that had an impact on the approach to suicidal behavior.

Results: The relevance of suicidal behaviors as avoidable outcomes in MS takes center stage from the third stage of the health system, in which there is evidence of a strengthening of the health insurance of the Colombian population, through the expansion of the Mental Health Benefits Plan.

Conclusions: It is possible to identify an orientation of the Mental Health System towards the strengthening of individual clinical actions, revealing a disarticulation with actions with a public health approach.
