The Perception in Patients, Family Members and Providers in Mexico about Quality in Diabetes Mellitus Control

Introduction: Chronic diseases such as diabetes represent one of the greatest public health challenges of this century. Its control requires the direct intervention of the patient, family, and health care provider.
Objective: To analyze the quality in the management and control of diabetes from the opinion of patients, family members and health providers in the Medical Units of the Mexican Social Security Institute of a federal entity in southeastern Mexico.
Methods: Research in health systems and services, qualitative, phenomenological under the interpretive approach. 165 patients participated in 16 focus groups, 160 relatives of patients in 16 focus groups, and 159 providers in ten focus groups. Interview guides were used. To process the data, the ATLAS.ti V23 software was used, carrying out the process of transcription, coding, categorization, saturation and triangulation to derive conclusions.
Results: There are several factors that limit the quality of diabetes management, one of which is the grief that the patient experiences for refusing to accept their illness, the hegemonic nature of medical care, the organizational limitations that prevent them from dedicating quality time. to the patient and the lack of family and social support.
Conclusions: Evaluating diabetes interventions from a people-centered quality perspective is currently a priority. Health service providers, family members, and society are substantially involved in the proper management of the disease.
