Abstract

This is an interpretive commentary on the recent book originating from the Global Health Group (University of Chile), which advocates for the urgent renewal of global health.

Several disciplinary and thematic areas of global health are defined and developed, developing three strands: academic-scientific analysis; the field of public policy and international health governance; in adittion to COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic. Highlights include political themes surrounding globalization, environmental sustainability, and social inequality; the role of academia; critical analysis of institutions and power structures; climate change and biodiversity; international migration; global risks; comprehensive drug policy; and health systems (global governance).

In conclusion, global public health is reaffirmed as more relevant than ever. Its renewal requires urgent changes in multilateral organizations, academic institutions, and health systems.
