Introduction: National public health associations are scientific organizations whose purpose is to contribute to the improvement of the health of their respective populations. In the international context, these are organized into regional federations that the World Federation of Public Health Associations endorses. In the Americas region, 21 national associations have been founded, which had never been organized as a regional entity.
Objective: Document the process of founding and developing an organization capable of conducting the joint management of Public Health associations in the Americas region.
Methods: Led by the Cuban Society of Public Health, a management development and innovation intervention were designed and implemented between the years 2011 and 2023. To achieve the objective, systematic functional and historical structural methods were applied.
Results: In 2015, the “Alliance of Public Health Associations of the Americas” was established, and was categorized as a regional federation in 2016. The Alliance is currently made up of 18 countries, which together comprise 92 % of the total population of the Americas region. This Alliance has managed to mobilize efforts to support strategies, programs, and events of a social, political, and public health nature, aimed at reducing inequalities and inequities in health, and has promoted coordinated and joint scientific and research work, aimed at preventing or confronting common health issues in different contexts.
Conclusion: The Alliance has contributed to improving the management of national associations and their articulated actions in the face of social and public health problems in the region.
