Abstract

Introduction: high blood pressure is the most common condition at the international level and one of the main risk factors for other diseases. Its adequate follow-up, continuous treatment and therapeutic adherence constitute important elements in its control and prevention of complications.

Objective: to identify some factors related to blood pressure control in a hypertensive. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in a subsample of hypertensive patients from the Julio Antonio Mella polyclinic in Guanabacoa, who were surveyed between September and December 2019. Two-stage cluster sampling was used. 337 hypertensive people over 35 years of age were studied.

Results: the most controlled hypertensive patients were those ≥ 65 years old (p≤0.03), those who did not work (p≤0.03), and those adhered to treatment (p≤0.04). However, no value was statistically significant.

Conclusions: it is concluded that the percentage of controlled patients obtained was higher than what is usually reported in the literature. However, none of the factors studied were statistically related to control. The application of measures aimed at modifying lifestyles in hypertensive patients and the population in general, the active search for new hypertensive patients, the close doctor-patient relationship, updated knowledge of antihypertensive therapy by providers, its availability in pharmacy maintained, its proper use by the patient, continuous and comprehensive monitoring of this disease, among others, are factors that can contribute to achieving better results in the control of this condition.
