Vulnerability and salutogenesis of the primary caregiver of an oncogeriatric patient

Abstract

Introduction: The primary caregiver of a cancer patient has an immediate involvement in the health of the chronically ill and plays an indispensable role in the recovery of their well-being.

Objective: To analyze theoretical aspects related to the vulnerability and salutogenesis of the primary caregiver of an oncogeriatric patient.

Methods: Data synthesis was carried out from a total of 49 retrieved publications in Spanish and English. For the content analysis, the results of scientific research published between 2015 and 2020 on official websites of the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, ministries of health were reviewed; as well as in journals indexed in the Scopus and SciELO databases.

Conclusions: The necessary literacy of the primary caregiver of the oncogeriatric patient must take into account the development of essential skills that guarantee successful care. The design of an action strategy appropriate to the stage of development, the disease and the characteristics of the family, allows to guarantee the well-being of the cancer patient and the caregiver.
