Abstract

Objective: To analyze the factors associated with condom use in men who have sex with men from Asunción and Central Paraguay during 2023.

Methods: An cross-sectional, and analytical study was conducted among men who have sex with menfrom Asunción and Central Paraguay. The study variables were demographic characteristics and attitudes toward condom use.

Results: 233 men who have sex with men from Central and Asunción participated, they were 20-24 years old (27.47 %). 53.65 % of the participants had a positive attitude toward condom use. Regarding substance use, 35.78 % reported having tried some drug. Regarding receptive oral sex, alcohol consumption was significantly associated with inconsistent condom use, with the risk being higher for those who consume twice (OR=6.8, 95 % CI: 5.601-23.021, p=0.001) compared to those who do not consume.

Conclusions: A combined approach that includes biomedical, behavioral, and structural strategies is needed to effectively address Human Immunodeficiency Virus prevention in this population.
