Abstract

Introduction: Health-related quality of life involves multiple disciplines and sectors, but there have not been many studies that quantify the flow of information to establish regularities and trends in the sources that publish the works.

Objective: To describe the scientific production published in Cuban medical journals on quality of life in older adults.

Methods: A bibliometric analysis was performed to identify the terms older adults –quality of life– health-related quality of life, 2001-2019, in the registries. The bibliographic reference manager End Note X7 and Microsoft Excel were used to tabulate the results and metric techniques were applied to evaluate the indicators studied. A total of 42 related articles were selected.

Results: A total of 18 journals published articles on the subject, 33.3% of which are in Scopus and Web of Science. 4.76% of the articles reviewed focused on the inquiry about the individuality of the subjects.

Conclusions: The scientific production of health-related quality of life of older adults has been concentrated in the last 10 years, with a downward trend. There is a gap between the definitions of quality of life and health-related quality of life and their study. The trend of the types of works is focused on original descriptive research, review articles and, to a lesser extent, qualitative ones. Emerging topics leave cardinal gaps for future research.
