Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices About Dengue in Physicians at Canton of Quinindé, Ecuador

Introduction: Dengue is a viral infection widely disseminated in Ecuador. Compared to previous years, there is a significant increase in cases. The low coverage of doctors in the canton of Quinindé determines that the knowledge, practices and attitudes of these professionals are an important factor in the management of these patients.
Objective: To evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practices about dengue in physicians in the canton of Quinindé, Ecuador.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional observational study was conducted using an online questionnaire. Frequencies and percentages were used to describe the distribution of the population, and analysis was carried out using the chi-squared test to establish relationships between the characteristics of the participants and the level of knowledge.
Results: Of the 116 professionals interviewed, 8.62% of the physicians showed a high level of knowledge, 56.03% a moderate level and 35.34% a low level. 34.48% of physicians reported that dengue is one of the biggest problems in their population. And in the practical section, 70.69% of the participants were familiar with the clinical management guidelines of the World Health Organization, 41.38% of doctors believed that they did not have enough resources to treat a case of dengue.
Conclusions: The level of knowledge of the physicians is moderate-low. Continuous updating is needed to address this disease, with greater emphasis on diagnosis, treatment, and recognition of the warning signs of dengue.
