Abstract

Introduction: The world is living through a period of great uncertainties due to the negative effects of
neoliberal policies and globalization, with the inequities affecting vulnerable social groups being increasingly
profound and which, in recent decades, have made it possible, at the global level, to manifest in
all its magnitude the fact that poverty is the greatest obstacle to achieving adequate levels of health in
the population.
Objective: To analyze the challenges faced by the globalized world in order to fulfill the purpose of
eradicating poverty and providing health for all.
Method: A critical reading and theoretical analysis of the relationship between health and poverty is
made, from selected documents issued by PAHO/WHO in the period 2000-2020, using as a reference
the worldview of the Cuban Health System.
Conclusions: The need to adopt urgent measures to reconfigure the current socio-economic structure
at the global level and to strengthen public policies and the role of the State in the preservation and
promotion of health is highlighted.
